The lighthouse at Strathy Point was built in 1958 and was the first in Scotland to run on electricity. It was manned until 1996 when it was converted to automation. When I visited in 1987 a young family lived here and the surrounding rocks gave ideal nesting habitat for birds such as Oyster catchers and Ringed plovers.
